Once you have moved, the work is almost over!
Here is a list of things that should be done within the first
day or two of arrival.
- Get new licenses and registrations if you have moved to
a new city.
- Go grocery shopping and possibly purchase disposable dishes
if you do not plan to unpack everything the same day.
- If you have chosen to utilise cardboard moving boxes, you
can take them to a recycle centre instead of throwing them
away.
- Make sure your aware of where all the important places
in your new town are, such as the hospital. There is always
a chance that a family member could get hurt, especially if
they must climb ladders to place painting or other décor
on the walls or outside of the house.
- Unpack your essential items first. They
should all be packed away together in a separate box(es) so
you don’t have to search for them.
- Sometimes it is easier to take unpacking one day at a time.
Items that are used less often can be unpacked a week or more
after you have moved in. Arrange your living areas and get
settled in before worrying about the smaller items.
- Set up any security and/or smoke alarms.
This should be on the very top of your to-do list. A fire
or burglary can happen at any time, even on move-in day!
After that you are done! Settle in and enjoy the excitement
of your new home.
